How to Maintain Your Color Treated Hair
After coloring, wait a full 72 hours before shampooing.
It takes up to three days for your hair cuticle to fully close. If you shampoo too soon, you risk washing your color down the drain.
Use sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner.
What you put on your hair will make a difference in the longevity of the color and the long-term health of your hair. In addition to sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner, we recommend Oribe Glaze for Beautiful Color. It intensifies vibrancy, delivers high gloss shine and keeps hair soft and silky. This treatment can be used at home, once a week, in place of your conditioner.
Turn down water temperature when shampooing.
Use slightly warm water to shampoo and cold water after conditioning. This will help seal in moisture and prevent your color from fading.
Use a leave-in treatment.
Color treated hair needs extra hydration and TLC. Find one that has UV protection to prevent damage from the sun. Oribe Run Through is our favorite and is also a great detangler!
Spray heat protectant before using hot-tools.
Otherwise, the heat will strip away color and hydration leading to damaged hair.
Avoid chlorine.
Chlorine is a chemical bleaching agent that will definitely affect your hair. Blondes develop a greenish tint, while darker shades become dry and lose shine. Wear a swim cap or use a leave-in treatment before taking a dip!
Keep up with regular trims.
Split ends won’t hold color and will fade even faster. Make sure you are visiting your stylist for a clean up every 6-8 weeks so your color stays looking fresh from root to tips!
